Most beginners are sold complexity before they’ve earned the need for it. The first six weeks of a strength training program should do three things well: teach movement patterns, build a consistency habit, and introduce load gradually.
A simple full-body split, trained three times a week, covering a squat pattern, a hinge pattern, a push, a pull, and basic core work, is enough. Technique should be prioritized over load for the first several sessions — the goal is to build a movement foundation that can support heavier training later.
Community support matters here too. Beginners who train alongside others, even loosely, tend to stay consistent longer than those training in isolation — which is part of why cohort-based formats can work well for this stage.
